Elections in Hong Kong

Monday, September 13, 2004

They are holding elections for the legislature in Hong Kong. Fifty percent of all the eligible voters voted. And they only got to elect a part of it. The rest of the legislature is elected by special "electorate" (read: pro-Beijing) so that the Chinese government won't get shut out in the decision-making process. And people still voted - knowing the elected won't have real power. The voices that need to be heard is what this election is all about.
